HR Specialist with German

We are looking for an HR Specialist with strong German language skills to support employees and managers across German-speaking markets (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). You will manage day-to-day HR operations, drive recruitment and onboarding, ensure compliance with local labor laws and GDPR, and serve as the first point of contact for HR queries in German and English.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee lifecycle
Manage end-to-end onboarding and offboarding, including contracts, background checks, probation tracking, exit interviews, and reference letters.
Maintain accurate employee records and documentation in HRIS, ensuring GDPR compliance.
Recruitment and talent acquisition
Partner with hiring managers to define roles, draft job postings in German and English, screen candidates, conduct interviews, and coordinate offers.
Manage ATS workflows and ensure an excellent candidate experience.
HR advisory and employee relations
Provide first-line HR support in German and English on policies, benefits, leave, and performance processes.
Support employee relations cases; escalate and collaborate with legal/ER specialists as needed.
Compliance and policy
Ensure HR practices comply with German/EU labor regulations and internal policies.
Support works council (Betriebsrat) processes where applicable, including information and consultation obligations.
Maintain and update employee handbooks and HR policies for DACH.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Fluency in German (C1 or native) and strong English proficiency (written and spoken).
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
2–5 years of hands-on HR generalist/specialist experience, ideally supporting Germany or the DACH region.
Working knowledge of German labor law and HR practices (contracts, probation, notice periods, leave, working time, works council basics).
Experience with HRIS and ATS platforms; strong proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build trust with employees and managers across cultures.
High attention to detail, data accuracy, and confidentiality; familiarity with GDPR requirements.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
